Findlay High School boys have to play better
I’ll give the Findlay High School Trojans credit --- they survived.
Call it a sloppy win, but it was a win nonetheless for the FHS team who went to 18-3 on the season.
They were lucky. Lima Senior couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn Thursday night the Spartans had many chances to get back in the game against Findlay but couldn’t get anything going on offense there were several occasions they got a couple or even three shots off during single possessions and didn’t make any of the shots.
Now is the time for the boys to start picking it up. Getting to the district finals has been a chore for FHS over the years, according to head coach and FHS basketball historian Jim Rucki, FHS has only been to the finals maybe three times since 1981. These chances don’t come around every day so you have to seize the moment when they do.
Up next is a very good Mansfield Senior team. Just for comparison some common opponents.
Findlay (18-3)
Dec. 8 Sandusky W 67-50
Dec. 14 at Marion Harding W 54-42
Jan. 19 at Sandusky W 65-58
Jan. 25 Marion Harding W 75-57
Feb. 8 Lima Senior W 60-52
Feb. 23 at Lima Senior W 62-51
March 8 Lima Senior W 51-43
Mansfield Senior (20-2)
Dec. 2 Sandusky W 65-57
Dec. 16 Lima Senior W 63-46
March 8 Sandusky W 70-60
What does that mean? Hell if I know. But Findlay needs to play better offensively to beat Mansfield Senior and secure a spot in next week’s regional that much I do know that much.
