Van Buren can go all the way if...

Well after watching Van Buren last night, I think they have what it takes to make it to Columbus IF they get past unbeaten Toledo Christian Friday night in the Division IV district finals at Liberty-Benton.
I think they match up inside much better than Continental did. I was actually shocked by the 25-7 halftime score of the Continental-Toledo Christian game I’ve gotten to see quite a few Continental games and honestly I have never seen a worse performance during a two quarter stretch from them than I did last night.
Toledo Christian caused many of their problems but Continental isn’t the same team they were without Scott Keck in the lineup. Keck was one of the Pirates go-to players and he went down with an injury last month
Like all outstanding basketball teams, Van Buren made every play they had to down the stretch against Ottawa Hills to win.
Fort Jennings pulled the upset over Columbus Grove at Elida and it will be another Father-Son match up between the Musketeers’ John VonSossan and Ottoville’s Tom VonSossan. Ottoville’s is going for its third win of the season against Fort Jennings. The Big Green beat the Musketeers 53-42 Dec. 16 and 62-31 Feb. 6.
Vanlue won another easy game against Mohawk to reach the district finals at Fostoria and will now play Wynford. That shows how bad the MAL was this season in my opinion. No offense to all of my many MAL friends out there but the league really was down this season.
Of course Findlay High School’s girls cruised past Brunswick last night. I thought maybe that game would be closer. Can the Trojans take their act to Columbus…I guess we’ll see Saturday afternoon in Norwalk.

What game were you watching? VB did not play very well last night until the last few seconds. They were sloppy. There guard play is weak. So many times the guards are open for 3s and they never take them (simply because they can't shoot 3s). Other teams (like last night) will be more focused under the hoop and let the guards go free.
They cannot play TC the way they did last night (or did against Patrick Henry).
I hope they can get their act together by Friday, I want them to go far.

Sometimes the best shots taken are the ones not taken at all. VB's guards know their roll, and hoisting 3's isn't it. They are very discipline and work their offense to get good shots for their scorers. There's nothing wrong with that.

Now that's the VB we expected. Much better guard play. If they can keep up the play like last night against TC they can make the final.
