BGSU is the place

Tonight’s the night.
Boys regional basketball at Bowling Green State University.
Oh yeah and Myles Pizza before the game.
Should be some interesting match ups. I just hope I don’t fall asleep during the first semifinal tonight between Holgate and Fort Jennings.
You know the Tigers are known for slowing it down. They’ve had a couple of games this season where they scored in the teens I think their game against Napoleon was 19-14 if I remember right.
Hey who am I to criticize Holgate’s style of play, they’ve been to the regional 7 straight years. OK so playing Pettisville, North Central and the like might not be the toughest district but hey they win it every year. They are doing something right over there at Holgate.
The second game should be interesting, both teams are on a roll. Wynford has won seven straight and Van Buren is coming off an impressive win over unbeaten Toledo Christian.
Seriously, if the Knights play like they did against TC they win, if they play like they did in a 43-39 win over Ottawa Hills thy could be in trouble. We’ll find out which team shows up about 8 p.m. tonight. I do know one thing, E.J. Frost is a helluva a coach and he’ll have his boys well-prepared.

NOTEWORTHY:
HE’S FAST: Arlington graduate and Hillsdale College freshman Jared Krout did earn All-American honors in two events for the Chargers over the weekend at the NCAA Indoor track and field championships. He finished eighth in the long jump and sixth in the 400 I do believe. Pretty darn impressive I must say for a true freshman. Again, why didn’t UF recruit this kid?

TWO-TIMER: Congrats to University of Findlay junior Tony Guerra for becoming a two-time NCAA wrestling champion last weekend in Kearney, Neb.I think this makes it five years on a row that UF coach Shawn Nelson has produced and NCAA champion. Way to go Roughnecks! They are one of the best and most underappreciated athletic teams in the area.

OHSAA DOIN’ IT RIGHT: I have to tell you every OHSAA tournament I have been to have been run splendidly. The folks running the tournaments have been friendly and helpful and there has been sportsmanship all around…except for an incident between some students from Fostoria and Lexington I’ve been told. Kudos to the OHSAA for running a first class operation.
