Back on the gridiron...

It all starts tomorrow. The University of Findlay begins practice tomorrow and area high school teams are allowed to begin drills on Thursday.

Getting back to work after a long vacation means getting my assignments for the football tab. My six teams are Van Buren, Carey, Elmwood, North Baltimore, Liberty-Benton, Upper Sandusky. I got some different teams this season which isn’t all bad. Hopefully I can take a couple of days and get ‘em done. Elmwood, Van Buren and N. Baltimore one day and Upper Sandusky, Carey and Liberty-Benton the next. That would be the perfect geographic split North and South.

For anyone that is planning on checking out our football tab here are the other story assignments:
Dave Hanneman (Findlay, Ottawa-Glandorf, Patrick Henry, Leipsic, Pandora-Gilboa)
Mark Heiman (Hardin Northern, McComb, Cory-Rawson, Arcadia, Arlington, Bluffton)
Joe Williams (Hopewell-Loudon, St. Wendelin, Vanlue, Fostoria, Riverdale)
Brian Lester (Columbus Grove, Ada)

We’re getting schedules, preseason preview forms and other information by the day. I’ll post some information tomorrow about area teams from their preseason information.

In other news, just a week before the season, Findlay High School has finally hired a head golf coach. Unversity of Findlay athletic department staffer Scott Grant takes over for former coach Jon Brimley who resigned the position last spring under fire.

The high school could also hire a replacement for hockey coach Mike Root in the next couple of weeks. Dan St Jean appears to be the front runner for the position.

I think you'll have fun covering those group of teams. Liberty Benton and Elmwood promise to be two of the better teams in Region 18 this year. I have heard that Busch is already hurt at LB and Hammer is currently hurt at Elmwood.
