The doctor in in

Win and you’re in.

That’s what it boils down to for some area prep football teams.

We’re talking playoffs here.

With six games already in the books and Week 7 games looming in the next couple of days the pretenders and contenders are already beginning to separate themselves.

Who’s going to make the playoffs from the area this season? I’ll take my own stab at it.

The pigskin doctor is in!

Region 22
IN
HOPEWELL-LOUDON --
Chieftains have Calvert, North Baltimore and St. Wendelin the next 3 weeks and Mohawk in Week 10. If they win out they are No.1 if they lose to Mohawk they are the No.2 seed behind the Warriors. Prognosis: Playoff bound.

McCOMB -- The Panthers have Vanlue, Cory-Rawson, Arcadia and Leipsic left. I’m going to be frank, only Cory-Rawson looks like a threat to an 8-2 season for McComb. Even with an additional loss I think the Panthers still make it, if they win out, a first round home game at Doc Miller Field as the No.3 or 4 seed might be in the cards. Prognosis: Gonna make the postseason.

BUBBLE
VAN BUREN --
The Knights are sitting at No.9 right now. They have Pandora-Gilboa, Liberty-Benton and Arlington the next three weeks before wrapping things up with Vanlue. Win out and the Knights earn their first playoff appearance. Lose one they’ll be close, lose two games in the next three weeks they’ll be on the outside looking in. Prognosis: playoff hopes in guarded condition.

COLUMBUS GROVE -- The Dogs are No.11 this week even with a 2-4 record thanks to their win over LCC. Win out and even at 6-4 they have a chance to sneak in probably at No.7 or 8. That might be a tall order for Grove, unless they play the final four games with the fire that allowed them to beat LCC. Prognosis: playoff hopes in serious condition.

Region 24
IN
HARDIN NORTHERN --
Bears are No.3 in Region 24 and should be climbing with Cory-Rawson, Pandora-Gilboa, Liberty-Benton and Arlington still on the schedule. Win out and I think they’ll be No.1 and regardless they will be hosting a first round game. Prognosis: Welcome to Dola in Week 11.

BUBBLE
ADA --
The Bulldogs are in the No.10 spot currently but have a brutal slate of games the final 3 weeks that include unbeaten Allen East, Lima Central Catholic and Delphos Jefferson. They have more than enough offense, but the defense still leaves something to be desired. If they play a little defense they could make their second playoff appearance in school history…it won’t be easy though. Prognosis: On playoff life support.

Region 20
BUBBLE
BLUFFTON --
Currently hanging on to the No.8 spot in the region. The Pirates have Spencerville, Lima Central Catholic, winless Pauding and rival Columbus Grove still on the slate. Again, run the table and Bluffton is in and has an outside chance of hosting a first round game. A loss won’t necessarily eliminate them but would make it very difficult to qualify. Prognosis: Check back after Week 8.

Region 18
IN
PATRICK HENRY --
There are 7 teams in Region 18 at 5-1 and 3 others that are still unbeaten at 6-0. Patrick Henry is sixth and Bryan, Archbold, Sidney Lehman and Wauseon remain on the schedule. They way Region 18 looks they are all must win games and if the Patriots win out they’ll be hosting in the first round. Prognosis: Roll Red Roll.

BUBBLE
LIBERTY-BENTON --
The Eagles’ opening loss to Mohawk coupled with the all of the outstanding teams in Region 18 have put them in a must win situation. They have to win out to make another playoff appearance. Leipsic, Van Buren, Hardin Northern and Pandora-Gilboa are still on the schedule. But the Eagles are ranked 10th and still have to leapfrog a couple of teams to get in. Prognosis: Serious condition HN is the key.

ELMWOOD -- The Royals have winless Gibsonburg this week and their non-conference victories Port Clinton and North Baltimore have given them 0 second level points and they probably won’t contribute any this season. Elmwood has to win their final 3 games agains Eastwood, Woodmore and Otsego to have even a remote shot at making it as a No.7 of 8 team. Even then it’s a crap shoot. Prognosis: Life support.
