Football...full throttle
Yep there are lots of interesting things that happened on the football field around the area Friday night but unfortunately you’ll have to wait to read about them from me until maybe Monday.
There’s actually a bigger game to worry about today. Yes the Buckeyes do play and I have failed to mention it all week. I remember a time a few years ago when Ohio State was considered a pretty good football team but they never were the elite team that they are today.
Back when Earle Bruce or John Cooper were head coach at OSU a national championship was never really talked about because the beloved Buckeyes could never get past Michigan. People involved with college football have told me that Tressel won the national championship but did it with John Cooper’s players.
Well he’s done pretty well with his own set of players the past few years and undoubtedly Ohio State’s stature on the national stage has grown during Tressel’s tenure. Tressel’s players have had their share of off-season scrapes with the law but so far his program can’t hold a candle to Cooper’s players in that department, thank goodness.
I like the Buckeyes but I’m not a dyed-in-the-wool OSU superfan like many in Findlay are. They lost so many players on defense last year, I’m not certain they really do deserve their No.1 ranking in the polls. I guess we’ll find out if the sports writers and coaches are right about 8 p.m. tonight in Austin, Texas.
There will be no blog tomorrow, unless I’m feeling a little extra feisty. I’ll be barking and woofing at the Cleveland Browns opener. Section 149, Row 4, Seat 18...right on the visitor’s tunnel. We’ll see if the old digital camera can’t get some good pictures tomorrow and maybe I’ll upload a few from the game.

"Back when Earle Bruce or John Cooper were head coach at OSU a national championship was never really talked about because the beloved Buckeyes could never get past Michigan."
Earle Bruce had the edge over Michigan with a 5-4 record so that statement is not quite accurate in my opinion. Even Hayes didn't dominate the "team up North" with a 16-11-1 record, although you had to love the Woody & Bo wars.
Cooper is the one that stunk, 2-10-1. I liked Earle and couldn't stand Cooper (and not just because of the losses to Michigan.) Jim Tressel? The man is the best (and just happens to be 4-1 against the Woverines.) He's brought winning AND class back to OSU....GO BUCKS!
