X-Country Bonus Blog

OK time for a bonus blog.

This one though is for cross country fans only. I actually had a cross coach call me up this week and ask me, “Jamie, what it the internet address for your blog.”

I gave it out like I would my home, cell and office phone numbers to a super model. OK I’m lying I gave it out as fast as I would my phone number to any woman who asked me for it. I’m not picky.

Anyway here is a look at the area cross country league championships set for this weekend. Notice that the only league without a cross country meet is our very own BVC. Only L-B, Cory-Rawson and Van Buren have teams. It’s sad. All you need is a motivated coach, five runners, a van and poof you have a cross country program, Yet the rest of the BVC doesn’t field a team. I know L-B travels to the Zanesville Invite this weekend and Cory usually competes there too.

At the end are the Northwest District lineups for the district meets set for a week from Saturday. Seed meetings were held Monday. You’ll find this information no where else but here!

Greater Buckeye Conference
WHERE & WHEN: Lima's Faurot Park, Saturday, 10 a.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Marion Harding boys, Findlay girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: Findlay's boys team could very well go from last place in 2005 to first place this season. The Trojans should have a couple of first team all-conference runners including standout Kyle Hermiller. Alison Leckrone will be the favorite in the girls race but watch out for Marion Harding's Taylor McCurdy, who just returned to action last week after a bout with mono.

Midland Athletic League
WHEN & WHEN: Bettsville's H.P. Eells Park. 9 a.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: OId Fort boys, Seneca East girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: Hopewell-Loudon's Nathan Frisch and Old Fort's Jackson Stults have the MAL's top boys times this season at 16:52, but it doesn't appear that the Chieftains have the depth to challenge the Stockaders for the team title.
State-ranked Seneca East should be in a class of their own in the girls meet. Look for Old Fort's Becky Miller and freshman teammate Alexa Stults to lead the way individually.

North Central Conference
WHERE & WHEN: Colonel Crawford, Saturday, 10 a.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Colonel Crawford boys, Wynford girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: The Falcons could be poised for a move up the ladder in the boys meet after finishing seventh as a team in 2005. Riverdale's Levi Reza and Joe Fox could run their way to first team all-conference honors. Mila Radabaugh will likely lead the Falcons in the girls meet and could make the second team or honorable mention list.

Northwest Conference
WHERE & WHEN: Lincolnview, Saturday, 10 a.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Lincolnview boys and girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: It's not likely Columbus Grove or Bluffton will be able to pull the upset and win the boys team title but they should have some solid individual efforts. Bluffton's Robert Hooley and Columbus Grove's Chris Niese have led their respective teams and should be candidates to finish among the top 10.
The Bulldogs' Kristen Barkimer was ninth in last year's NWC meet and should lead the way again for area runners.

Western Buckeye League
WHERE & WHEN: Lima's Faurot Park, 1:30 p.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Van Wert boys, Defiance girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: Ottawa-Glandorf's girls team finished seventh last season in the league meet but the Titans will not be that far back this year. Returning Division II state qualifier Abbie Selhorst will be one of the top individuals in the race while Lindsey Barlage should also vie for all-conference honors for Ottawa-Glandorf.
Grant Siefker and Ben Kreinbrink have been steady for the Titans' boys team this season and will need to be solid to improve upon last year's fourth place team finish.
.
Suburban Lakes League
WHERE & WHEN: Fremont's Walsh Park. Saturday, 10 a.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Lakota boys, Gibsonburg girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: It should be an interesting girls race between Lakota and Gibsonburg for the title. Don‘t count out the Elmwood Royals though. Freshman Darla Heimann is having a terrific year and if Elmwood‘s Kaye Bockbrader, the defending regional champion, and Cari Ann Newby have great days the Royals could contend with the leaders. On the boys side, Elmwood has three returning all-SLL runners including second team selection Ryan Green and Cory Stewart and Thor Bottesch, who made the honorable mention list last year.

Northern Ohio League
WHERE & WHEN: Galion's Amann Reservoir.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Galion boys, Upper Sandusky girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: Upper Sandusky’s Kelsey Stief is back as the defending NOL girls champion as she led the Rams to the team title in 2005.The race for the girls team title is wide open with three or four teams challenging the Rams.
Galion’s James Zeuch is the defending boys champion and should be right at home on the Tigers’ home course as they try and defend their team title.

Northwest Ohio Athletic League
WHERE & WHEN: Montpelier's Hillcrest Golf Course, Saturday, 10 a.m.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Delta boys, Wauseon girls.
WHAT TO WATCH: Wauseon's Holly Baird is back to defend her title in the girls meet. Patrick Henry's Jesse Smuda has been terrific for the Patriots' boys team this season and could run his way to first team all-conference honors.
